WordPress gets a facelift with version 3.8

WordPress v 3.8

Yesterday WordPress rolled out version 3.8 (codename: Parker), the latest iteration of their widely-used blogging and content management platform. While WordPress updates aren’t unusual, this one may completely change the way you look at WordPress – literally! Many of the changes are to the look and feel of the user interface.

Modern design
As we discussed in our blog post Graphic Design Goes Flat, modern design trends are minimalistic and bold. WordPress has jumped on that bandwagon, too. Gone are the many gradients, dropshadows, and multiple shades of gray. Instead you’ll see a design that is bigger, more colorful, and optimized for desktop and mobile viewing.

Responsive design
As the number of readers accessing websites from a mobile device continues to grow, mobile-optimized design is more important than ever. WordPress 3.8 addresses that need by automatically adapting for any device.

New colors
Tired of the boring gray interface? No worries! The new default colors include black and blue, but you can now choose from eight new admin color schemes. You can even change it to fit your mood!

New Layout
If you have ever spent time in the old widget area, you’ll be happy to know that it’s been redesigned as well, with a new layout intended to streamline the widget management process. We say “cool beans” to that one!

If you are on a website maintenance plan with us, we’ll be rolling out the updates on your account over the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, find out more in the official release announcement.
