How to use the PANTONE 2017 Color of the Year
For those of us in the design field, December is always an exciting month. Yeah, yeah, we have the holidays and all that. But first and foremost, it is when PANTONE announces their pick for 2017 Color of the Year! Sometimes we love their choice, and sometimes we hate it, but we always talk about it. This year is no exception!
Introducing Greenery
According to PANTONE, “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
It’s a lovely color, which got us thinking – how could we use it? So, for fun, we plugged the color into the Adobe color wheel creator. Here are their automated results, without any editing from us.
Analogous Color Palette
Analogous color palettes include groups of three colors that appear next to each other on the color wheel.
Complementary Color Palette
Complementary colors reside on opposite sides of the color wheel and create strong contrast. Blue, for example, is a complementary color for orange.
Monochromatic Color Palette
Monochromatic colors are varying shades, tints, and tones of a single hue. Monochromatic designs tend to look clean and elegant.
Triad Color Palette
The Triad color palette uses colors that are spaced evenly around the color wheel.
